AdventHealth Expands Healthcare Services in St. Johns County

News Summary

AdventHealth has made a significant investment of $13.14 million in St. Johns County by acquiring properties in the World Commerce Center. This initiative aims to enhance local healthcare, including plans for a new emergency department and an 88-bed hospital by 2026. The expansion reflects AdventHealth’s commitment to improving medical services for residents and visitors, as the area continues to grow in demand for healthcare facilities.

Exciting Healthcare Expansion in St. Johns County!

St. Johns County is buzzing with news of a significant investment that promises to enhance local healthcare services. AdventHealth, one of the largest non-profit health care providers in the United States, has purchased portions of three properties in the World Commerce Center for a whopping $13.14 million! This purchase marks a substantial step forward in AdventHealth’s ongoing mission to improve medical care in the region.

On February 5, AdventHealth made the acquisition from World Commerce Center LLP of Jacksonville, and the transaction was handled by Advent Health Palm Coast Parkway Inc. The World Commerce Center is an impressive Development of Regional Impact, covering nearly 1,000 acres and conveniently located just off Interstate 95 and World Golf Parkway, extending down to State Road 16. It’s a prime area that can support various developments ranging from residential to retail, and, most importantly, medical facilities!

What’s in the Works?

Although the specific parcels acquired by AdventHealth haven’t been detailed in the deed, what we do know is that they’re situated at the south end of the World Commerce Center. This spot is quite close to recognizable landmarks like the Parkway Village shopping center and Tocoi Creek High School. Plus, there’s a proposed Walmart Supercenter in the works nearby, making this area a busy hub!

As a reminder, AdventHealth has roots stretching back to 1973, with its headquarters in Altamonte Springs. The organization’s reach is expansive, operating in nine states and reporting an impressive $18 billion in revenue for 2023. Known for its faith-based care, AdventHealth is recognized as the largest not-for-profit Protestant healthcare provider in the nation, boasting a wide array of facilities throughout Florida. They serve areas from Port Orange on the Atlantic coast all the way to North Pinellas on the Gulf Coast, with an impressive count of 51 hospitals and numerous care sites in the Sunshine State.

Future of Emergency Care in St. Johns County

On top of this recent property acquisition, AdventHealth has exciting plans for a 12-bed off-site emergency department set to open in St. Johns County by 2026. This department will be built on a 10.75-acre plot located on north Florida 207, which is just a short distance from Interstate 95. The health provider has been actively investing in local healthcare infrastructure, recently dedicating over $200 million in Flagler County alone!

The new facility is anticipated to greatly improve access to emergency services for both residents and visitors in the area—a much-needed boost considering the community’s growing healthcare demands. With St. Johns County Commission’s backing, the community’s excitement is palpable.

Big Plans Ahead

AdventHealth’s plans extend beyond emergency services. They have plans for an 88-bed hospital along with office space on the land they just acquired at the World Commerce Center. This land is also part of Parcel M, approximately 21.5 acres, nestled conveniently near Florida 16 along International Golf Parkway, and just a stone’s throw from major retailers like Buc-ee’s, Costco, and Bass Pro Shops.

The initial step for AdventHealth will be submitting an application for an Incremental Master Development Plan for their project. This innovative approach allows for construction in phases and bypasses the need for public meetings or hearings for review.

Community Impact

AdventHealth holds a significant spot in the local economy and has been a major player in job creation in Flagler County, proudly serving as the largest private-sector employer with nearly 1,800 employees. As development progresses, local residents can anticipate improved medical services, ample job opportunities, and a strengthened healthcare landscape.

With AdventHealth’s commitment to expanding healthcare in St. Johns County, the future looks bright for locals and visitors alike. Stay tuned for more updates as these developments unfold!
