Competing against several talented squads, the Govs proudly finished in a tie for 10th place with a total score of 920 after three thrilling rounds of play.

Strong Competition and Solid Performance

The tournament was a true test for the players, with fierce competitors from around the region stepping up to challenge the Govs. Austin Peay matched scores with Central Arkansas at 920, leaving them two strokes clear of 12th place, occupied by Columbia. Meanwhile, Oakland found themselves trailing the pack by three strokes. On the leaderboard, Austin Peay rounded off a competitive day with just two strokes between them and ninth-place Jacksonville State, and only four strokes separating them from eighth-place Georgia State.

Troy University Takes the Win

Taking home the championship trophy was Troy University, who pulled ahead of the field with an impressive aggregate score of 878. Troy’s Brantley Scott led the individual field, securing the medalist honors after wrapping up his tournament with a score of one-under 215.

Patton Samuels Shines Bright

Cementing his status as a top performer, Patton Samuels showcased his skills on the green, finishing tied for fourth with a remarkable score of 219. His performance included strong rounds of even-par 72 in the first two rounds, followed by a three-over 75 in the final round. Remarkably, this marks the sixth consecutive tournament where Samuels has finished in the top five, proving his consistency and tenacity as a player.

Impressive Efforts from Teammates

Reece Britt shone brightly during the tournament, recording the team’s best round on the opening day with a fantastic score of one-under 71. He concluded his efforts tied for 21st with a total of 227 after compiling a strong performance through the three rounds. The journey was a bit tougher for freshman Grady Cox, who racked up scores of six-over 78 and 80 in his first two rounds, ultimately standing tied for 71st with a total of 242 after finishing with an 84 in his final outing.

Challenges Ahead for Other Players

Other players faced challenges, with Seth Smith finishing tied for 74th after posting scores of 80, 84, and another seven-over 79 in round three, landing him with a total of 243. Logan Spurrier encountered a difficult tournament, finishing tied for 79th with total scores of 89, 79, and 78 resulting in a total of 246. Michael Long, who played as an individual, had a similar fate, concluding with scores of 84, 79, and 83, leading to a tied score of 246 as well.
