The Jacksonville community comes together for a golf tournament supporting families affected by childhood cancer.
The 2025 Child Cancer Fund Golf Tournament is set to take place in Jacksonville, bringing the community together to raise funds and awareness for families battling pediatric cancer. The event emphasizes fundraising efforts while also highlighting a recent initiative that benefited families through a generous shopping spree. Local schools are joining the effort too, demonstrating the power of community support. With inspirational stories like that of a young leukemia survivor, Jacksonville is proving its commitment to standing together in tough times.
In the warm heart of Jacksonville, excitement is building as the countdown begins for the highly anticipated 2025 Child Cancer Fund Golf Tournament. This year’s event is set to take place at the beautiful Jacksonville Golf and Country Club, and it’s more than just a day on the greens; it’s a chance for the community to rally together and support families facing the tough battle against pediatric cancer.
The golf tournament aims to raise not only much-needed funds but also awareness for families in Northeast Florida who are affected by this heartbreaking condition. With golf being a beloved pastime in the area, organizers are hopeful that the tournament will draw in generous donations and much-needed attention to this vital cause.
In conjunction with this exciting event, the spotlight has been shining brightly on a recent initiative that warmed the hearts of everyone involved. Eleven families currently battling childhood cancer were given a delightful surprise – a shopping spree at a local Winn-Dixie store!
Imagine pushing a grocery cart filled with goodies – this was the reality for the families who were welcomed for an empowering shopping day, where smiles were as plentiful as the items in their carts. Each family loaded up on free food, toiletries, and household goods, bringing the total value of groceries to an impressive $15,000. This generous act was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Winn-Dixie and The Players Championship, who are deeply committed to supporting families through the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund.
The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund, which provides financial and emotional support to families with children battling cancer, has an incredible history. Founded back in 1996 in memory of former player Jay McGillis, who lost his battle with leukemia, the fund has tirelessly worked towards aiding families in not just Jacksonville but also New York and New Jersey. To date, it has provided approximately $28 million in assistance to around 5,800 families, showcasing its unwavering impact in times of need.
During the shopping event, families were gifted $300 Winn-Dixie gift cards for future purchases, ensuring that they can continue to manage their everyday needs. In total, 31 gift cards were distributed, with additional cards set aside to support families who couldn’t be present that day. It’s a beautiful example of how community partnerships can make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing difficulty.
One particularly inspiring story comes from seven-year-old Lilly, who was diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of three and is now in remission. Getting involved in community efforts, Lilly’s brother, Brody, organized pajama day at his middle school, while their mother set things in motion at the elementary school. It’s stories like these that remind the community of the power of unity and support.
