That’s exactly what happened to one unhappy Florida man, John Andre, after a Delta Air Lines flight left his golf equipment in a less-than-desirable state.
After returning from a trip to Atlanta, Andre couldn’t believe his eyes when he picked up his belongings at the Southwest Florida International Airport. His prized golf bag, which he valued at a whopping $4,000, was burned, and his clubs were hardly recognizable. “These have been dragged, and then they caught fire,” Andre lamented, showcasing the damage in a poignant social media post that went viral.
This shocking incident, while startling, is not an isolated case. Earlier this year, a Tennessee man had his golf gear damaged aboard another Delta flight. It seems that mishandling of sports equipment is a recurring theme for this airline’s ground crew. Just a few months back in May, Delta issued an apology to the Tennessee passenger whose golf clubs ended up in a similar state of distress. Is this the new normal?
Initially, Delta Air Lines denied Andre’s claim for damages, a situation that left him feeling frustrated and voicing his displeasure on social media. But in an unexpected twist, Andre received a call from the airline informing him they would compensate him for the full amount of his claim. “We got a phone call from Delta and miracle of miracles, they apologized, and they’re going to pay the claim in full,” Andre expressed with relief. “It feels good to put this frustrating matter behind us.”

The mishap occurred on October 20th, when Andre flew back to Florida from Atlanta. The freight personnel informed him that his clubs had been dragged and “wore through the protective covering,” leading to a spark—and ultimately a fire. “And then I realized when it came around again… ‘Oh my god! These are my clubs!’” he recalled in disbelief.
