Doug Hanzel Takes the Crown in the Senior Division

Leading the charge in the Senior Division was none other than Doug Hanzel from Savannah, GA. Starting the final round with a daunting six-shot deficit, Hanzel pulled off an incredible turnaround by shooting a bogey-free 7-under 65. His impressive performance included three birdies and an eagle on the par fives, leading him to clinch the title and fulfill his dream of victory at this event.

Hanzel’s remarkable final score soared to a total of 7-under, demonstrating that sometimes, the path to success can be paved with perseverance. He now finds himself ranked as the third best player in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings. It was an emotional win for Hanzel, who expressed his gratitude for having the chance to shine at a venue that holds special memories for him.

The Battle for Senior Division Runner-Up

Todd Doss, hailing from Mandeville, LA, showcased his own skills finishing as the runner-up with a solid 5-under 67. However, not every player had a smooth ride. Steve Harwell from Mooresville, NC, found himself in a tight spot as the overnight leader. A double bogey on the 17th hole forced him into third place with a total score of 6-under.

James Pearson Makes it Four in a Row

In the Super Senior Division, it was a familiar sight as James Pearson from Charlotte, NC, continued his domination by securing his fourth consecutive win. Going head-to-head in a playoff against Duff Wagner from Greenville, SC, both ended their rounds at 1-under, but Pearson ultimately prevailed. His steady play throughout the tournament, coupled with the new driver he was using, played a vital role in his success.

Richard Kerper from Oldsmar, FL, finished strong in the Super Senior Division too, securing third place with a 4-over total after a final round of 71.

Mark Weston Shines in the Legend Division

Meanwhile, over in the Legend Division, Mark Weston from Windermere, FL, emerged victorious with a total score of 2-under 214, marking his first win at any event within the Society of Seniors. He skillfully navigated the course to secure his winning position.

Adding some nervous competition were Marc Fried from Solon, OH, and Les Devitt from Concord, MA, who tied for the lead at even par. Striking just a shot back were three contenders, including Pete Allen from Southport, NC, Don Donatoni from West Chester, PA, and Paul Schlachter from Naples, FL, all hoping to catch up.

Super Legend Division Highlights
