Hey there, sports fans! It’s a beautiful day here in Tallahassee and the air is buzzing with excitement after the No. 4 Florida State baseball team pulled off a nail-biter against Jacksonville, winning 11-10 in a game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. If you weren’t at Dick Howser Stadium last night, you missed one heck of a ride!
Let’s kick things off with the fact that Florida State found themselves in a tough spot right out of the gate, trailing 5-0 after just one inning. That was a bit surprising for the fans who were eager to see their Seminoles in action. However, our boys didn’t let that get them down. They dug deep and bounced back, showcasing their grit and determination by leveling the score by the bottom of the second inning!
In a game that featured a whopping 13 hits, the Seminoles were swinging for the fences with three home runs in total. Star of the show, Max Williams, hit not one but TWO home runs, driving in three runs and increasing his season tally to an impressive 14 home runs. Talk about power hitting! Not to be outdone, James Hankerson Jr. also smacked a home run for the second consecutive game, proving that his bat is hot right now. Meanwhile, Alex Lodise was clutch with three RBIs, and let’s not forget Myles Bailey, who had three hits in last night’s showstopper.
The game had its share of ups and downs. FSU’s pitching staff had a bit of a rough outing with 11 walks issued, along with three wild pitches and even hitting a batter. Hudson Rowan started the game but only lasted for one out while allowing four runs and three walks—yikes! After some early struggles, the Seminoles found their rhythm and were able to regain the lead multiple times. A crucial moment came in the seventh inning when Alex Lodise smacked a two-run single to put FSU ahead.
As the game progressed, FSU continued to fight, but Jacksonville wasn’t going down without a fight either. Aidan Masters made his presence known early on with a three-run homer for Jacksonville, securing their initial lead. The tension escalated in the ninth inning when Jacob Marlowe, who had been solid, allowed two runs that sharply reduced FSU’s lead to just one run! It seemed that the outcome was anyone’s guess.
With the game on the line, Ben Barrett took the mound to seal the deal. Securing the final out with the tying run on second base, he earned his second save of the season, much to the relief of the fans. It was a heart-pounding finish that had everyone celebrating the Seminoles’ victory!
Looking ahead, Florida State will be hitting the diamond again soon, as they prepare to host Wake Forest for a three-game ACC series that kicks off this Friday at 8:00 p.m. Make sure to catch the action on the ACC Network!
So, whether you’re a die-hard fan or just love a good underdog story, you won’t want to miss this next series. Go Noles!
