WalletHub has ranked the ‘Happiest Cities in America’ for 2025, revealing that Florida struggles to keep up despite its sunny reputation. The state ranks 14th overall for happiness, with Pembroke Pines being the highest at 39th place. Meanwhile, Jacksonville is noted as the least happy city in Florida, ranking 119th. The analysis factors in mental health, income, and social connections, showing economic stability as vital to residents’ happiness.
Hold onto your sun hats, folks! WalletHub has just released its much-anticipated rankings of the “Happiest Cities in America” for 2025, and the Sunshine State is looking a bit gloomy. Despite Florida’s sunny beaches and warm weather, the state is struggling to find its place among the happiest locales in the United States.
WalletHub assessed over 180 of the largest U.S. cities, digging deep into various factors that contribute to happiness. Among these indicators are mental health, physical health, social connections, job satisfaction, and even income. While the United States is known for being one of the richest nations globally, it ranks only 23rd on the World Happiness Report, raising eyebrows about what truly makes people happy.
Florida as a whole finds itself at 14th overall for happiness, according to the WalletHub analysis. Pembroke Pines, a city known for its beautiful parks and family-friendly activities, was the highest-ranking city from Florida, landing at a respectable No. 39. Though Pembroke Pines shines in community bonding and health aspects, it struggles in areas like income and employment, which could be holding residents back from feeling fully satisfied.
On the flip side, Jacksonville, Florida’s largest city, took the unfortunate title of the least happy city in the state, coming in at No. 119. Ouch! Meanwhile, Cape Coral managed to rank at No. 50, climbing one spot from the previous year. However, it has lost its distinction as the overall happiest city in Florida.
So, where is happiness thriving? Well, Fremont, California, takes the cake as the happiest city in America, boasting an impressive score of 73.54. Fremont’s secret to joy lies in high emotional and physical well-being along with a high percentage of households earning above $75,000 per year and a notably low divorce rate of 8.9%. San Jose comes in second, followed closely by Irvine in the third spot.
On the contrary, Cleveland was named the least happy city in America, landing at a dismal No. 182 with a meager score of 34.01. It seems like there’s a stark contrast between the happiest and least happy cities in the U.S., and Florida doesn’t have a representative in the top 30, which is quite surprising given its many attractions.
The analysis considered 29 indicators of happiness, ranging from depression rates to how much leisure time residents have. It appears that cities boasting higher numbers of households with incomes over $75,000 tend to score better on the happiness chart, proving that economic stability plays a significant role in how people feel. Perhaps this is where Florida cities are lagging behind.
While sunshine and palm trees offer a warm embrace to Floridians, it seems that the state has some work to do on the happiness front. Although local cities like Pembroke Pines and Cape Coral make strides in fostering community and health, a lack of robust job opportunities and financial stability could be keeping the sunshine from shining as brightly as residents might hope.
