Starting this Monday, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) will kick off district tournaments for high school tennis teams across Jacksonville and the surrounding areas of Northeast Florida. With the matches spreading over several days, students, families, and supporters can get ready for some thrilling action on the courts!
The tournament schedule has been released by the FHSAA, although it’s important to note that changes might happen as we move forward. The top two teams from each district will advance to the regional tournaments happening next week. So make sure to cheer on your teams for a chance at glory!
Let’s dive into the boys tournaments. Starting with the Atlantic Coast District, teams like Atlantic Coast, Creekside, and Fletcher will battle it out on Monday and Tuesday. Matches start bright and early at 8 a.m., with finals set for the same time. Notable players to watch include sophomore Tristan Straw from Tocoi Creek and highly-skilled freshmen Siddharth Mantha and Aadhav Balraj from Creekside.
The excitement continues in the Tallahassee Chiles District, where schools such as Columbia, Lynn Haven Mosley, and Tallahassee Leon take the courts on the same days. Expect some gritty competition as Columbia faces off against some tough rivals!
On Wednesday, the action shifts to the Fleming Island District, featuring Englewood, Fleming Island, and others, starting at 8 a.m.. Keep an eye on Zach Hyatt from Fleming Island who has shown promise in previous seasons!
Moving to the Nease District, teams like Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra are gearing up to compete on Tuesday and Wednesday. Here, Nease and Ponte Vedra are predicted to be the favorites based on past performances!
Later in the week, the Suwannee District will take the stage on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m., where senior Dalton Moore will lead Keystone into the fray. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
And don’t forget about the Fernandina Beach District running from Monday to Wednesday, and the Bolles District where Bolles is historically tough to beat! The final matches in both of these districts will kick off at 9 a.m..
Now let’s talk about the girls matches! Kicking off the tournaments is the Oakleaf District where teams like Atlantic Coast and Creekside will be aiming to capture victories on Monday and Tuesday, beginning at 8 a.m.. Watch out for Caroline Cooper from Creekside and Lizzy Damon from Tocoi Creek!
In the Tallahassee Chiles District, it’s also game on for girls with fierce competitors like Columbia and Tallahassee Leon facing each other shortly.
The Fleming Island District has its set of talented players as well. The matches occur on Tuesday, where many predict Fleming Island girls will triumph.
As for the Ponte Vedra District, Tuesday and Wednesday will feature the best of the best, including all-star Kylie Kochis from Nease who aims to make a significant impact.
