Jacksonville, Fla. — The family of Ilson Miriam Kim, a 64-year-old beauty supply store owner, is mourning her tragic death. Kim was killed while attempting to stop shoplifters at her store, Beauty Max, prompting an outpouring of grief in the local community. She is remembered by her relatives as their “peacekeeper and anchor,” leaving behind her husband and two adult daughters.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Kim confronted shoplifters at her store on a recent afternoon. The thieves reportedly stole items from Beauty Max and fled the scene in a vehicle, striking Kim in the process. The sheriff’s office confirmed that Kim was run over while pursuing the suspects, resulting in her untimely death.
In a heartfelt statement, Kim’s family expressed their shock and sorrow, noting that they were unsure why Kim decided to confront the shoplifters. They mentioned that their store had faced theft issues in the past, stating, “Someone even had the audacity to steal from the store the day after her death.” This emphasizes the ongoing problem of theft affecting local businesses in the area.
Her family has announced that funeral services will be held this Sunday, December 15, in Marlton, New Jersey. They are also encouraging community members with any information regarding her death to come forward. A reward of $3,000 is being offered by CrimeStoppers for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the incident.
Ilson Miriam Kim operated Beauty Max for three years and was deeply passionate about her work. Her family described her as a hardworking entrepreneur who took immense pride in her business. They said, “She loved her work because of the opportunities it allowed her to provide for her family.”
Kim had been married to her husband, Chuil Kim, for 38 years and was the proud mother of two daughters who were her greatest joy. She was known for her selflessness and often provided guidance to family members. Leaving her home in Korea in 1986, she sought better opportunities in the United States, demonstrating great courage and determination.
The family acknowledges the enormous loss they face, describing how Kim’s absence will leave a void in their lives. They stated, “Ilson’s shoes can’t be filled.” Community members who knew Kim have also expressed their heartbreak, describing her as a person whose kindness and generosity earned her respect and admiration.
This incident shines a light on the serious issue of shoplifting and the potential dangers business owners face when they confront thieves. Kim’s family has urged anyone with information about the crime to reach out to law enforcement. “Please think about who your actions may harm. This crime had very real consequences,” they stated.
As Jacksonville grapples with this profound loss, the community remains hopeful for justice and healing. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Kim’s family with funeral expenses, reflecting the collective grief and support from friends and neighbors who remember her legacy.
