Once upon a time, outdoor golf driving ranges were all the rage in Southwest Florida. But as many of these facilities have disappeared, a new trend has emerged, and it’s turning heads on Corkscrew Road. Enter The Cave, a striking indoor golf hub that combines the thrill of golfing with the comfort of a bar and kitchen! This unique venue opened its doors on February 4 and is quickly becoming the place to be for golf enthusiasts and newbies alike.
With rising prices at public courses and the changing landscape of golf in the region, many golfers are seeking alternatives. The Cave offers something that outdoor ranges can’t: a chance to enjoy golf year-round, no matter the weather. Karen Nicoletti, a professional golfer with the LPGA, and her husband Brad Swearingen, who once walked the fairways as a professional caddy, saw this gap in the golfing market and decided to fill it.
“The pandemic was great for the game of golf,” Nicoletti mentioned. “Public golf courses are hitting their all-time high. But it’s tough for the average person to be able to afford the sport.” This increasing interest in golf coincides with the decline of traditional driving ranges, making places like The Cave all the more appealing.
The Cave offers three top-of-the-line golf simulators, perfect for those looking to sharpen their skills or simply have fun with friends. Each simulator can accommodate up to six players for an hour-long session, all for just $50. For the same price, one could easily spend a day on an actual course, like the iconic Pebble Beach, but why not try the virtual version instead? It’s much more budget-friendly and, let’s face it, way easier to access!
What’s more, The Cave is more than just golf. The venue is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and boasts a menu filled with tasty choices like pizza, wings, and other tasty appetizers. Its inviting atmosphere is designed to be friendly for everyone, from the beginners to the seasoned pros.
One of the standout features of The Cave is its commitment to the community. They offer free women’s golf clinics every Monday, aiming to empower more women to take up the sport. Plus, there are special perks for veterans, police, firefighters, emergency medical services, and educators. “Coming here, you don’t have to worry about being intimidated,” Nicoletti assures. “It’s a relaxed and fun environment.”
With Swearingen’s back injury sidelining him from his caddy career, he turned to this project as his new passion. “When he was recovering, he needed a Plan B,” Nicoletti explained. The result is an impressive creation that they built practically from scratch. And the plans don’t stop there! They have their sights set on adding indoor pickleball courts to further enrich the offerings at The Cave later this year.
As you walk into The Cave, the excitement is palpable. Swearingen demonstrated the simulators by driving a ball into the screen, which morphed into a seamless, simulated shot. “It might take a hole or two to adjust because there’s no horizon to gauge depth,” he said. “But it’s so accurate and realistic that you’ll soon feel like you’re actually on the course.”
For those seeking a fresh and friendly golfing experience, The Cave is the perfect blend of sport and socializing. So, grab your buddies, head over, and see why indoor golf simulators are the future of this beloved game!
