Sponsor Our ArticlesJacksonville, Florida, experienced a difficult Sunday marked by a series of accidents that resulted in injuries and significant road closures. Emergency services responded swiftly, with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol actively managing the incidents on Beach Boulevard and Old Baymeadows Road. Both accidents caused major traffic disruptions, and local authorities are urging drivers to take precautions while dealing with increased danger for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
Jacksonville, Florida, had a tough Sunday with several accidents leading to injuries and significant road closures. Emergency services were kept busy as local authorities worked to manage the fallout from these incidents.
The first crash reported took place on Beach Boulevard in the westbound lanes, just around lunchtime at approximately 12:09 p.m. This incident happened near the old Regal Beach Boulevard Stadium 18 and not too far from Target. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) and Florida Highway Patrol quickly responded, with emergency personnel showing up on the scene to take care of those who needed assistance.
Traffic took a major hit as one lane of Beach Boulevard westbound remained open, while the others were closed off to allow for the investigation and cleanup. To make matters more complicated, one eastbound lane was also shut down due to the same incident. Drivers in the area are advised to steer clear and look for alternative routes to avoid the congested traffic.
Local authorities are now calling for enhanced safety measures to protect all road users. Among the suggestions are speed cameras in school zones, backed by research that shows a significant reduction—up to 50%—in pedestrian-related injuries in states that have implemented such measures. In addition, Duval County Public Schools has rolled out their “Be Safe. Be Seen” campaign to promote pedestrian safety around schools.
Heartbreakingly, the driver of the stolen truck fled the scene but may have sustained injuries consistent with a crash. Authorities are currently seeking information from the public regarding the whereabouts of the individual driving the stolen vehicle. If anyone has details, they are encouraged to report tips.
