One possible solution is implementing a lodging license process similar to those in cities like Chicago and Houston. This would broaden safe, affordable housing options while enabling the city to regulate and oversee these activities. Additionally, modifying the zoning laws to alter the definition of “family” could allow multiple unrelated adults to reside together in single-family homes, providing a quick increase in housing units available.

As housing regulations often vary by city, Jacksonville must evaluate all available options to create effective and safe affordable housing solutions. The aim should be to provide necessary regulations while ensuring quality living conditions for residents.

Path to Collaboration
