The beloved Art in the Park chalk art competition is rolling back into town for its fifth fabulous year, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 29th, 2025, as this lively event promises to be a colorful feast for both the eyes and the imagination.
This year’s theme, ‘Full STEAM Into The Future’, is sure to ignite the artistic passions of participants and spectators alike. For those who may not know, STEAM is all about blending the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. It’s a fantastic way to inspire creativity while also celebrating the progressive advancements of tomorrow. The competition is open to artists of all ages, so whether you are a proud professional or just discovering your artistic flair, this event welcomes one and all! The bustling sidewalks surrounding Downtown’s James Weldon Johnson Park will be transformed into an open-air gallery, filled with incredible chalk art masterpieces created right before your eyes. Participating artists will receive all the chalk they need to bring their imaginative ideas to life—and all you have to do is show up ready to create magic!
With a whole six hours on the clock, artists will be busy sketching, coloring, and expressing their thoughts through vibrant chalk art. During this time, members of the public are encouraged to stroll around the park, engage with the artists, and dive into the stories behind their creations. It’s a fantastic opportunity to ask questions, learn more, and appreciate the skill and passion that goes into creating such ephemeral art.
But wait, there’s more! If you’re not an artist but still want to be a part of the action, don’t worry—there’s a way for you to help decide the winners! The final winners will be determined through a combination of votes from both judges and the public. So your opinion counts, and you get a say in which masterpieces take home the honors!
