Jacksonville Community Honors Legacy of Bishop Arthur T. Jones Sr. Following His Passing at Age 76

Jacksonville Mourns the Loss of Beloved Bishop Arthur T. Jones Sr.

Jacksonville, Fla. – The community of All People International Church is heartbroken following the unexpected passing of their esteemed leader, Bishop Arthur T. Jones Sr., who died on Thanksgiving morning at the age of 76. His death has left a profound impact not only on his family but also on the entire church congregation.

A Legacy of Leadership

Bishop Jones dedicated more than 50 years to spiritual leadership, having founded the All People International Church in his parents’ garage. In 1976, he moved the congregation to its current location on Edgewood Avenue. His ministry expanded beyond Jacksonville, reaching countries such as Jamaica, Brazil, and various nations in Africa and the West Indies.

On the morning of his passing, Bishop Jones engaged with the congregation through a phone call, delivering a hopeful message just hours before his death. His youngest son, Ardel Jones, who has taken on the role of senior pastor, recalled, “He began to tell the members that he prayed for us, and God told him that everything was going to be all right.” Shortly after this uplifting call, Bishop Jones passed away peacefully in his favorite chair at home.

A Difficult Transition

In recent weeks, Bishop Jones had been gradually transitioning leadership to his son, Ardel Jones. This included appointing him as senior pastor while planning to co-minister during his retirement. Ardel reflected on the special moments he shared with his father in the role of preacher. “One of my greatest joys was when I was preaching to turn around and see my dad… Every now and then, he would jump up. I knew that when he jumped up, that meant that I was preaching real good,” he shared.

Community Sentiment

The outpouring of grief is palpable within the church community. Many have come forward to share how Bishop Jones profoundly influenced their lives. Ardel expressed solace in hearing from fellow pastors who mentioned the strength and guidance their father provided during their darkest times. He noted that stories like these bring comfort amidst the sorrow.

A Father to the City

Known affectionately as “a father to the city,” Bishop Jones was highly regarded for his integrity and ability to inspire those around him. His absence is keenly felt, but the values he instilled and the commitment to faith he encouraged will remain in the hearts of the community.

When asked what he would say to his father if given a chance, Ardel shared, “I would tell him how honored I am to be his son… even today in my tears to stand behind his sacred desk and minister to his people.”

Moving Forward

This past Sunday marked the first service held at the church since Bishop Jones’ passing. It served as a time for the congregation to come together, seeking comfort in their shared worship and mutual support. As they move forward, members are determined to carry on the legacy of Bishop Arthur T. Jones, a man who touched many lives.

Upcoming Services

The family has announced that a viewing/visitation is tentatively planned for Friday night at the church located at 1993 Edgewood Ave. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the same location, where the community will gather to pay their final respects.
