Jacksonville, FL – Recently, students, staff, and families at River City Science Academy came together to support breast cancer awareness through a fundraising event that raised $8,000. The funds will benefit two local nonprofit organizations dedicated to aiding breast cancer patients and their families.
The school organized a “dress-down” fundraiser, allowing participants to forgo their typical school uniforms in favor of themed clothing. This year’s theme was pink, symbolizing breast cancer awareness. Students and staff alike contributed to the cause by paying a fee to dress down, showcasing their support while raising funds for those in need.
The proceeds from this event will be split between two prominent nonprofits. The first is Pink Ribbon Jax, an all-volunteer organization that provides funding for free mammograms and imaging services for local residents battling breast cancer. The second beneficiary is V for Victory, which offers support to adults, children, and families facing cancer diagnoses in the community.
This initiative has garnered significant praise from school officials. Dogan Tozoglu, the executive director of River City Science Academy, expressed pride in the community’s involvement, stating, “This initiative reflects the heart of our school community. We are incredibly proud.” The event not only raised necessary funds but also fostered unity among students, staff, and families as they rallied together for a common cause.
The fundraising event took place on designated “dress-down” days throughout the school. These days allowed students to break away from their routine attire and show solidarity by wearing pink, which is widely recognized as the color symbolizing breast cancer awareness. The event was held across several campuses of River City Science Academy in Jacksonville, emphasizing the collaborative effort among different school locations.
In addition to this successful fundraising effort, River City Science Academy continues to engage in various community initiatives. The school continues to epitomize the spirit of community involvement and compassion.
