In a tragic incident on Friday evening, an employee at a beauty supply store in Jacksonville lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while trying to confront a suspected shoplifter. The event unfolded around 6 p.m. outside Beauty Max, located at 11900 Atlantic Blvd. in the Kernan Village shopping center.

According to Sgt. Steve Rudlaff of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, two individuals entered the Beauty Max and one grabbed several items before fleeing the store. The employee, whose name and age have not been released, followed the suspect outside to prevent the theft. Unfortunately, as she attempted to confront the shoplifter, she was hit by a dark-gray SUV that was backing up. The vehicle reportedly contained at least three people.
Emergency responders rushed the woman to Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. “She was trying to confront them and stop them, and unfortunately in the process of that, she was run over,” Rudlaff explained. Notably, no weapon was observed during the altercation.

The Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident, focusing their efforts on locating the dark-gray SUV involved. They have appealed to the public, asking anyone who may have been in the shopping center parking lot during the incident to reach out with any information or video footage that could assist in their investigation.
