Jacksonville, Florida Welcomes Record-Breaking Golf Achievements!

It was an exciting weekend for the Illinois State women’s golf team as they made waves at the Sea Best Intercollegiate hosted by Jacksonville University. The tournament took place on January 27-28, 2025, at the picturesque San Jose Country Club, where the par-72 course stretched out across a challenging 6,084 yards.

An Unforgettable Fall Finale

Wrapping up their fall season, the Redbirds showcased their skills on the national stage, finishing ranked 99th in the country. However, they didn’t just come to compete; they came to conquer! The team etched their name in the record books by setting a new school record for the lowest single-round score with an impressive total of 279. The previous record, held since the fall season on September 8 and October 22, was decisively eclipsed.

Sharing the Lead

As the tournament progressed, the Redbirds’ two-round total of 569 put them in a tie for the top spot in the team standings, sharing the podium with Florida. Not too far behind was South Alabama, sitting seven strokes back in third place. The competitive field included a variety of schools such as Florida Gulf Coast, Coastal Carolina, and Navy, proving just how fiercely the Redbirds had to fight.

Fresh Faces Shine

A major highlight of the tournament was the performance of freshman Jessica Jolly, who opened with a remarkable career-low score of 69. This impressive round not only marked a personal best for her but also tied the school record for the lowest single-round score achieved by a freshman. Heading into the final round, Jolly found herself sitting in a three-way tie for first place individually—talk about pressure!

Strong Performances All Around

Jinyoung Yun played consistently well, pulling off rounds of 74 and 69, finishing the 36 holes at -1 and placing herself in 11th position. Meanwhile, Lory Paradis maintained a steady pace with two even-par rounds of 72, securing a tie for 12th place with a score of 144.

But the excitement didn’t end there! Freshman Elise Fennell also made headlines by matching the freshman school record with her second-round score of 69. She is currently tied for 16th place, showcasing the wealth of talent coming from the newcomers. Even veteran Morgan Jones kept up a steady rhythm with consistent rounds of 73, landing her in a tie for 21st place.

This Week’s Showdown

The final round of the tournament was a much-anticipated event, scheduled for January 28, 2025. With Florida and South Alabama challenging the Redbirds for the top spot, it’s going to be a thrilling finish! The entire golf community is eager to see if the Illinois State women’s golf team can hold onto their lead and walk away with a well-deserved victory.

As the competition heats up, the stage is set for a fantastic showdown. The Illinois State women’s golf team has already proven their mettle, and who knows? There might be more records waiting to be broken!
