Jacksonville Lights Up for the Holiday Season

Jacksonville, Florida is glowing with festive cheer as the holiday season kicks into high gear. Residents and visitors alike are invited to immerse themselves in a variety of light displays and holiday events throughout the city. With numerous options available, families are encouraged to take to the streets and enjoy the colorful decorations.

Blackhawk Bluff Neighborhood’s Spectacular Display

One of the standout events this year is in the Blackhawk Bluff neighborhood. Known for its holiday spirit, this award-winning light display will enchant visitors every night until January 26, 2025. Covering 20 blocks, the event is set to attract thousands looking to enjoy the festive atmosphere and the beautiful decorations.

Deck the Chairs at Jacksonville Beach

Another cherished holiday tradition is the Jax Beach Deck The Chairs, which is now in its 12th season. This popular event is located at the Seawalk Pavilion and was officially lit for the season on November 27. The free event showcases more than 70 lifeguard chair displays, each uniquely decorated by community members. In addition, there will be over 40 children’s stage programs running until January 1, 2025. The lights illuminate the area nightly from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., creating a magical experience for all.

Glowing Gardens at the Jacksonville Arboretum

For those seeking a unique light experience, the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens has launched its inaugural holiday light show named Glowing Gardens. This event transforms the arboretum into a fantastical Floridian winter wonderland, featuring dazzling lights and captivating sculptures. The celebration began on November 29 and will continue through December 29, offering visitors an enchanting atmosphere to enjoy during the holiday season.

Colors of the Wild at the Zoo and Gardens

Additionally, families can participate in a mesmerizing journey at the Colors of the Wild event, presented by Community First Credit Union. This display features over 1,200 glowing Asian lanterns, creating a breathtaking spectacle that combines art and nature. Taking place on select nights from November through February 9, this event promises an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

The City of Jacksonville’s Christmas Tree

The festive sensations continue with the City of Jacksonville’s Christmas Tree now lit and on display at James Weldon Johnson Park. Standing proudly at 56 feet tall, the energy-efficient tree is adorned with over 78,000 LED lights and 150 ornaments, solidifying its place in the city’s holiday traditions for over three decades.

Nocatee-A-Glow Festivities

For more family-friendly activities, Nocatee-A-Glow is running throughout December at the Spray Waterpark and Nocatee Station Field. The event features a charming Christmas village, musical performances, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse-drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo, and a variety of food trucks, creating an exciting atmosphere for families.

Incredible Light Displays by Local Families

In Mandarin, a local family has created a stunning walk-thru light display, which is free for all visitors. Expect lines as thousands come to witness this remarkable spectacle every year. Additionally, residents Eric Bumgarner and Johnny Dunning have synchronized their lights to music, enhancing the viewing experience. The show, located at 5084 Losco Road, can be enjoyed by tuning into 103.1 FM for an immersive soundtrack.

Farewell to Jax Illuminations

While the holiday season is bright with so many options, it is important to note the closing of another beloved event, Jax Illuminations. Organizers announced with mixed emotions that they would no longer host the event. The announcement leaves a gap in the holiday celebration landscape, but the community is hopeful that new traditions will arise in the future.

Share Your Holiday Experience

Residents are encouraged to share their own light displays or events by uploading photos on social media. This community engagement aims to foster joy and spread holiday cheer across Jacksonville. Whether you’re strolling through displays, participating in events, or simply enjoying the festive ambiance, there’s no shortage of holiday spirit in the city this season.
