Sponsor Our ArticlesJacksonville International Airport (JIA) is expanding its flight offerings to meet growing passenger demand. This includes new domestic destinations such as Kansas City, as well as international routes like Toronto and Bogotá. With an expected 7.6 million passengers in 2024, the airport is preparing for the influx with a $300 million expansion project, featuring new gates and additional parking spaces. Travelers can expect more flight choices and improved services starting soon.
Jacksonville, the sunny city known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant culture, is stepping up to become an even bigger hub for travelers. Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) is on the rise, expanding its flight offerings to cater to an increasing number of passengers. The airport is diving deep into understanding where travelers want to go, using a neat little metric called PDEW (Passengers Daily Each Way). This helps them figure out which markets are *unserved* yet desired by the flying public.
In their quest to enhance travel options, JIA has identified some exciting new domestic destinations that will be added soon. Some of the top unserved markets include the Bay Area, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Seattle, and Kansas City. It’s thrilling to think of hopping on a flight to these places right from Jacksonville! In fact, passengers will be delighted to know that Southwest Airlines is set to start Saturday flights to Kansas City starting June 7. So whether it’s for a weekend getaway or a quick visit, the option will be right there at your fingertips.
But that’s not all—JIA is also eyeing some popular international destinations that jet-setters have been dreaming about. Imagine taking a nonstop flight to Bogotá, Madrid, or even London. The excitement deserves a celebration, and it’s coming soon! A nonstop flight path to Toronto is also in the works, starting service on Saturdays and Sundays from May 21. It looks like international adventure is just a flight away!
As it stands now, JIA proudly serves five major domestic markets, including New York/New Jersey, Washington D.C./Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, and Dallas. But with all these upcoming additions, the airport is clearly not stopping there—the travel scene in Jacksonville is about to get even more lively!
Crowds are already buzzing at JIA, and with *record-setting numbers*—over 7.6 million passengers in 2024 alone (a lovely bump of 2.4% from 2023)—it’s essential for the airport to keep up. To ensure the airport is ready for the influx of travelers, there’s some significant construction going on. A new concourse is set to open at the end of 2026, which will include six new gates and allow for even more passenger traffic.
This expansion project is no small feat, with a whopping price tag of over $300 million. Spanning 186,733 square feet, the expansion will also add roughly 2,000 new parking spaces. Just think about how handy that will be for travelers and those picking them up!
Looking ahead, JIA isn’t done yet. Southwest Airlines has plans for nonstop flights from JIA to Austin, Texas, slated to begin in October 2024. That means more options for fun weekends or business trips to the Lone Star State! Additionally, Allegiant Airlines will be resuming flights to St. Louis, Missouri, in March 2024, as well as adding service to Austin simultaneously.
But wait, there’s more! Breeze Airways has already kicked off nonstop service from JIA to New Haven, Connecticut, with unbeatable fares starting at just $44. Get ready for even more flight choices with Breeze offering seasonal and year-round nonstop flights to exciting locations like New Orleans, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Richmond, Norfolk, and Hartford.
With all these changes, the future looks bright for Jacksonville International Airport. More flights mean more adventure, and whether it’s a short trip or a long-haul journey, travelers in the Jacksonville area will soon be able to say, “Where do you want to go today?” With a heart full of excitement, JIA keeps expanding to ensure it meets the demands of every traveler. So buckle up and get ready for take-off—your next adventure just became even more accessible!
