Jacksonville Schools Shine Bright This Spring!

Hello, Jacksonville! We’ve got some exciting news buzzing around our schools this week that you won’t want to miss. Two local educational highlights are stealing the spotlight: Stanton College Prep has been recognized as one of the best high schools in the state, and Jacksonville High School is gearing up for a special signing day ceremony for our talented student-athletes. Let’s dive into the details!

Stanton College Prep Ranks No. 5 in Florida!

First up, we have Stanton College Prep, which has landed an impressive spot as the No. 5 high school in Florida according to a recent assessment. That’s no small feat! This school has become a beacon of academic excellence, showcasing the hard work and determination of both the students and teachers.

At Stanton, students have an array of choices when it comes to their education. With options like Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and honors programs, they have the chance to earn their diplomas through rigorous and challenging coursework. How cool is that? Plus, thanks to partnerships with local colleges like The University of North Florida and Florida State College at Jacksonville, students can earn college credit while still in high school, making the transition to higher education a little smoother.

Looking at the numbers, it’s clear that Stanton is doing something right! The school boasts a graduation rate of an astounding 99%, ensuring that nearly all students are ready to take on the next chapter of their lives. On the state assessments, students scored an impressive 87% in math, 94% in reading, and 88% in science. Not to mention, there’s a strong sense of community with a minority enrollment rate of 68.1%. Way to represent, Stanton!

Jacksonville High School Celebrates Our Student-Athletes

Monday, April 28, the school will host a signing day ceremony at 4 p.m. in the media center to celebrate ten outstanding student-athletes who will be continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level. These students have worked tirelessly, and it’s time to recognize their dedication and achievements!

The list of athletes participating in the signing event is impressive:

  • Anderson Decker is on his way to play baseball at Millikin University.
  • Samantha Lawson will be dancing at SIUE.
  • Colton Barr is ready to hit the links at Quincy University for golf.
  • Evan Gillespie will be running cross country at Eureka College.
  • Zara Harper is set to spike the volleyball at Blackburn College.
  • Brandon Sims and Avery Cook are both headed to Tennessee Martin and McKendree University to pursue football.
  • Alexis Seymour is off to Quincy University for wrestling.
  • Briar Miller will be making plays at Oakton College for soccer.
  • LaMarion Williams is joining the football team at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

These athletes are not just stars on the field but are also making strides in their academic journeys, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Carnival Fun-ternship Program is Here!

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, Carnival Cruise Line announced the launch of their exciting summer internship program for high school juniors and seniors in Jacksonville! Known as the “Carnival Fun-ternship Program”, this opportunity allows students to work as guest port services agents at the cruise terminal right here in our city. This hands-on experience is a chance of a lifetime to learn about cruise terminal operations and gain skills that can propel them into future careers.

This internship runs from June 21 to August 2 and comes with an hourly wage—though the exact amount hasn’t been shared yet. If you’re interested, make sure to submit your application by May 1 since they expect to hire between 15-20 students. Don’t miss this chance to gain some valuable work experience!

That’s a wrap on this week’s educational highlights, Jacksonville! From academic accolades to athletic achievements and exciting internships, our schools are brimming with opportunities. Stay tuned for more news and continue to support all our students as they thrive in these enriching experiences!
