A Cold Weather Advisory was even issued—something new for our city this year.

This Cold Weather Advisory gets triggered when the wind chills drop to between 16–25 degrees in Northeast Florida. Nearby in South Georgia, they’re dealing with wind chills between 11–20 degrees. If that wasn’t chilly enough, an Extreme Cold Warning kicks in for those frigid wind chills below 10 degrees in Georgia, or 15 degrees here in Northeast Florida. Yikes!

A Simpler Weather Alert System

This Tuesday also marked the first application of a simplified winter weather alert system by the National Weather Service. This new system aims to clarify the possible dangers that accompany cold weather, especially us Floridians who might not be used to these lower temperatures!

Residents were also greeted with a Freeze Warning issued that evening following the Cold Weather Advisory. Just when you think you’ve had enough, stronger winds are expected on Wednesday, which could push those wind chills back into the low to mid-20s. Remember to bundle up, folks!
