Construction workers are busy renovating the JAX 2 fulfillment center to enhance employee workspaces.
Amazon is investing $3.18 million to renovate its JAX 2 fulfillment center in Jacksonville, Florida. The renovations will enhance employee facilities and improve workspaces, including restrooms and break rooms, creating a more inviting environment. The construction is set to be handled by Foresight Construction Group, aiming to boost worker conditions and operational efficiency. This move signifies Amazon’s commitment to its workforce and the local economy as it expands its presence in Jacksonville.
Jacksonville, Florida is buzzing with excitement as Amazon gears up for a major renovation of its JAX 2 fulfillment center, located near the Jacksonville International Airport. The company is rolling out the red carpet with an impressive investment of $3.18 million aimed at enhancing the facilities and making the workplace a lot more employee-friendly.
The renovation project encompasses approximately 65,000 square feet of the fulfillment center, which itself spans a sprawling 857,470 square feet overall, including a first floor and three mezzanines that total about 2.3 million square feet. Talk about a vast space!
Select areas are set to receive a facelift, including restrooms, break rooms, and office spaces. These improvements are designed to create a more comfortable and inviting environment for workers. The city approved a permit for these interior alterations on April 9, officially kicking off the renovation process.
In addition to sprucing up workspaces, the renovation also includes updates tailored for the Amazon Flex program. This innovative program allows individuals in the area to deliver packages with their own vehicles, contributing to local job opportunities and flexibility.
Foresight Construction Group Inc. from Gainesville is stepping in as the contractor for this exciting project, while Ware Malcomb, an architectural firm based in Atlanta, is leading the design efforts. Together, they’re bringing fresh ideas to the table to ensure the renovation meets the needs of both employees and the company.
Amazon’s footprint in the Jacksonville area has been expanding rapidly. The JAX 2 fulfillment center opened its doors back in September 2017, just a few months after the debut of another center in the region, the AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center. Since then, the tech giant has added even more facilities, boasting 11 active facilities in the area at present—and a 12th center in the pipeline!
These centers were initially established with an enticing package of $26.7 million in city and state incentives, which has helped create around 2,700 jobs for the local community. It’s great to see such support for job creation and economic growth in Jacksonville!
While the renovation requires significant investment, it underscores Amazon’s commitment to improving worker conditions and enhancing operational efficiency. By investing in its local teams and infrastructure, Amazon exemplifies its ongoing growth strategy in Jacksonville, setting a positive tone for the local economy.
Whether you’re a current employee or just a curious resident, stay tuned as these renovations bring in some much-needed upgrades to the JAX 2 fulfillment center. There’s a lot to look forward to in the coming months as both employees and the community benefit from these enhancements!
