Jacksonville, FL – A new business aimed at serving the needs of Downtown office workers has officially opened its doors. The Mini Market, developed by Matt and Lindsay Moberg, held its grand opening on December 2, 2023. Located at 233 N. Hogan St., at the corner of Hogan and West Monroe streets, the store combines elements of a convenience store, a snack nook, and a locally sourced gift shop.
The concept for The Mini Market was born out of a desire to provide Downtown workers with another option for their basic needs. “It started from Matt knowing that people needed another option Downtown for just their basic needs,” noted Lindsay Moberg. The couple aimed to “think like office workers” when selecting what products to offer, ensuring they would have relevant and convenient choices within arm’s reach.
The Mini Market is not your average convenience store. It offers a variety of packaged breakfast and lunch grocery items, snacks, bottled beverages, and other food options that can be easily taken back to offices or picked up on the way home. The grocery items include single-serve cereals, oatmeal bowls, breakfast bars, microwavable soups, and instant ramen. In terms of snacks, customers can find packaged nuts, beef jerky, chips, and microwave popcorn, along with a selection of candy, gum, snack drinks, and bottled water.
Additionally, The Mini Market features decorative items, locally sourced gifts, and even dog treats, all aimed at offering more than mere convenience. Customers can also find items reminiscent of a corner grocery, such as toiletries, bottled condiments, and cleaning supplies. Many of these items are displayed behind the counter, giving the shop a more personal and inviting atmosphere, which sets it apart from typical convenience stores.
Feedback from customers has been overwhelmingly positive. Since its opening, Lindsay has reported that patrons often remark that the shop is “not like a convenience store – it’s more homey.” This warmth and personal touch were intentional, aiming to create a welcoming environment for busy professionals transitioning from work to home.
Looking forward, Matt Moberg, who previously ran the Downtown coffee shop “Back to the Grind” in the same location, has plans to open a new breakfast and lunch spot nearby in early 2025. Meanwhile, the Mobergs are exploring opportunities to expand The Mini Market’s offerings. They plan to introduce a grab-and-go counter featuring items like salad wraps and fresh-cut fruits to further cater to the needs of Downtown commuters.
Currently, The Mini Market operates from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are tentative plans to extend weekday hours and potentially open on Saturdays, making it even more accessible to Downtown workers and visitors alike.
Overall, The Mini Market stands as a fresh addition to Jacksonville’s Downtown landscape, providing a thoughtful and much-needed service to the community.
