Jacksonville, Fla. – A pedestrian lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on the city’s southside Thursday night. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) reported that the accident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. while the man was attempting to cross Atlantic Boulevard near Southside Boulevard.

The victim, a man in his 40s, did not use the designated crosswalk, opting instead to cross the busy street in a poorly lit area. According to JSO, “The pedestrian didn’t yield to oncoming traffic. He was not in a crosswalk. And it’s in a dark area.”
During the incident, a driver in his mid-20s was traveling westbound in a Hyundai when he struck the pedestrian. The force of the impact propelled the victim into the eastbound lanes, where he was subsequently struck by another vehicle, also a Hyundai.
