Excitement Builds in St. Augustine for the 19th Annual Amateur Golf Tournament

St. Augustine, Florida – Mark your calendars! The picturesque city of St. Augustine is gearing up to host the 19th St. Augustine Amateur from December 6-8, 2024, at the stunning St. Johns Golf Club. This year’s tournament is particularly exciting as it builds off the adrenaline of last year’s successful competition, following a two-year break due to course renovations.

A Comeback Like No Other

After a significant transformation, the golf course, designed with “traditional throwback” architectural features by renowned golf course architect Erik Larsen and General Manager Wes Tucker, reopened just in time last November. The revamped course stretches over 7,009 yards and offers a unique par-71 layout that left players raving about the experience.

Last year, the talented Brody Stevenson clinched victory with a remarkable final-round score of 65, finishing the competition at an impressive 11-under par. This win boosted his confidence and led to his selection for the Atlantic Sun Conference all-freshman team at Florida Gulf Coast University. Talk about a thrilling leap into college golf!

Why December?

The December dates for the tournament have proven to be a game changer. Previously held in October, the shift in timing allows the event to pull in more college golfers, as it avoids clashes with busy fall golf schedules. It’s the perfect spot nestled right between fall and spring slates, making it an attractive option for top-tier players looking to showcase their skills.

Supporting the Youth

But wait, there’s more! It’s not just about the golf. This tournament is also about giving back to the community. The net proceeds from sponsorships go directly to First Tee–North Florida, a fantastic local youth development organization. They’ve been making a difference since the tournament started, and with the support expected to surpass $25,000 this year, the total aid generated for First Tee is projected to reach nearly $500,000. What an incredible way to support young aspiring golfers!

Who Will Compete?

This year’s tournament promises a highly competitive atmosphere with a maximum field of 84 players, featuring NCAA Division I college golfers, nationally ranked juniors, elite mid-amateurs, and even international competitors. Expect a thrilling age range from 13 to 44, showcasing a blend of experience and youthful exuberance!

Past winners have graced the tournament with their skills from all over the globe, including names from Malaysia, Italy, South Korea, England, Norway, and Thailand. Many champions hail from right here in the United States, with five past champions calling St. Augustine and Jacksonville home.

A Tradition of Excellence

Since its inception in 2004, the St. Augustine Amateur has highlighted remarkable talent, including future PGA Tour professionals like Peter Uihlein, Zach Sucher, and Blayne Barber. With every year that passes, the prestigious reputation of this tournament only continues to grow.

Let the Games Begin!

As the tournament approaches, excitement fills the air in St. Augustine. With its extraordinary course, strong player field, and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of golfers, the St. Augustine Amateur promises to be an exhilarating event that none can afford to miss!
