West Palm Beach, Fla. — As families prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, gas prices in Florida have seen a slight decrease. On Sunday, the average price per gallon of gas dropped to $3.11, marking a 1-cent decline from the previous week.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), Thanksgiving typically sees a rush of travelers. Although the average gas price has increased slightly compared to last year, this has not deterred people from hitting the road. For instance, on Thanksgiving Day, gas prices averaged $3.13 per gallon, which is 10 cents higher than the same day in 2022 but remains 30 cents lower than 2021’s figures.
The report from AAA outlined that gas prices can vary significantly across different metro areas within Florida. West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, Homosassa Springs, and Naples hold the title for the highest gas prices, while areas such as Crestview-Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, and Pensacola offer more economical options.
AAA plans to release its Year-End Holiday Travel forecast on December 11. While they will provide insight into travel trends, official figures regarding Thanksgiving travelers will be included in next year’s holiday report.
As fuel prices remain a concern for many holiday travelers, AAA has shared several tips for saving on gas. Suggestions include combining errands to shorten driving distances, comparing gas prices at local stations before filling up, and opting to pay with cash to avoid credit card fees. Additionally, driver habits can play a significant role in fuel efficiency; removing excess weight from vehicles can enhance mileage, while a conservative driving style may also help to maximize fuel economy.
Travelers seem undeterred by the slight increase in gas prices as they plan their holiday trips. Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, commented on the resilience of American travelers, noting that variations in gas pricing, even when slightly higher than last year, seldom prevent families from embarking on their holiday journeys.
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, many residents in West Palm Beach and across Florida are expected to hit the roads. The AAA’s forthcoming reports will shed light on travel numbers and predicted trends. In the meantime, families can brace themselves for potential costs at the pump while making the most of their holidays with loved ones.
