Sponsor Our ArticlesWalmart is set to open a new supercenter and gas station in southwest Jacksonville, creating a new shopping hub. The project includes a liquor store, parking space for 778 vehicles, and multiple outparcels for future development. Construction is overseen by FMGI Inc. and marks significant community growth.
Jacksonville is buzzing with excitement as Walmart gears up to create a brand new supercenter and gas station in the southwest part of the city. The building permit for this impressive project was issued on February 26, marking the start of something truly special for the local community.
This isn’t just any grocery store. The forthcoming supercenter is set to span about 175,360 square feet—that’s a whole lot of shopping space! And if you’re looking for something to quench your thirst, an attached liquor store measuring 4,365 square feet will have you covered. The entire project will sit on 30.28 acres located at 10000 Omni Drive, right at the junction of the southwest First Coast Expressway and Oakleaf Plantation Parkway, conveniently nestled on the Duval side of the Clay County line.
FMGI Inc., a construction company hailing from Woodstock, Georgia, will oversee this impressive $30.19 million undertaking. Jacksonville City officials had already greenlit a horizontal development permit worth $18.5 million back on November 1, paving the way for what is sure to be a bustling hub for shoppers.
As site clearing begins, we’re on the brink of not only a supercenter and liquor store but also a Walmart gas station and seven more future outparcels. There is currently a permit review in the works for the gas station, estimated to cost around $1.5 million. Walmart Stores East LP of Bentonville, Arkansas, is spearheading the development, ensuring that everything comes together smoothly.
Beyond the supercenter and liquor store, Jacksonville can look forward to eight outparcels for further development—including spots for a car wash, general retail, and a variety of restaurants. These outparcels will range in size, with plots varying from 0.99 acres to 1.48 acres. The gas station will claim 1.83 acres for its operations. With Omni Drive set to connect Oakleaf Plantation Parkway to the Walmart site, accessing this shopping destination will be a breeze!
Walmart is planning to roll out 778 parking spaces for customers, making sure that no one has to worry about finding a spot when they arrive. This locale will also feature an additional road wrapping around one of the outparcels and the expansive Walmart parking lot, enhancing accessibility.
In preparation for this massive project, reports concerning utility requirements, pumping station needs, and soil conditions have been on file with JEA since early October. A preliminary design report has hinted at even more exciting future developments on those outparcels—including potential fast-food chains and other retail opportunities that will undoubtedly bring even more convenience to the area.
Interestingly, Walmart has been acquiring the necessary property parcels since the years 2006 through 2021, so the groundwork for this project has been a long time coming. Once completed, the supercenter will proudly hold the title of being the 15th Supercenter-format Walmart in Duval County, offering a wide array of groceries, general merchandise, a liquor store, and even a garden center for all your green-thumb needs.
With these magnificent changes on the horizon, it’s clear that the residents of Jacksonville are in for a treat. The future looks bright, and the new Walmart supercenter is set to make waves in the community, offering convenience and excitement in one awesome package!
